Paths to success

Let me ask you a question, if you could go back to the moment you started your career path, the one who lead you to where you are now, what would you do differently? From a very young age (some younger than other) we have to make one of the most important decisions of our lives: where to start a career path. Whether we go to college or not, we should aim to work on something we enjoy.

How sad would it be to do something everyday that we don’t even remotely like without any hope of improving the situation? To feel stuck in a routine while your only motivation is a monthly salary? Life is too short to spend 40 hours per week on a dead end with so many opportunities out there.

A career path is a series of trails that help you progress towards your goals and objectives in the work environment. And even though work should not be the #1 priority in our lives, it has the possibility of encompassing a large part of them if we let it. This being so important is why I want to focus on some steps for those who are starting can take in order for their career path to start healthy no matter where they are at.

Research

There are so many interesting careers out there, including some that might interest you. However because they are not as common there is a possibility you never hear about them. To avoid this, I recommend you talk to people about what they do in life. Know your interests. Once you know them, find job fields that are related to them.

Explore different fields

I mentioned before that you should do research in fields you enjoy. However, what if you are not sure on what type of jobs you want to get into? Well, in that case I recommend exploring different fields, taking courses on different activities, and learning a variety of skills to find out which ones you take pleasure in.

Nurture ourselves

There are alternatives to make yourself more valuable in your field, and if you approach them they can give you an advantage. Independent classes, certifications, online courses, or trade schools are all good options to further your knowledge. By doing all of this you won’t only be more secure on where you want to work at, but your knowledge in the field will be greater which will make you more desirable to employers.

My whole life I heard the Mark Twain saying “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” And as quirky as it sounds, it all made sense the moment I started applying it myself. The excitement I have on a new project and the fulfillment it produces when it’s finished inspired me to approach this subject. Work is a big deal, and if there is a chance that it can contribute to your happiness we should take advantage of it.

“I think the foremost quality — there’s no success without it — is really loving what you do. If you love it, you do it well, and there’s no success if you don’t do well what you’re working at.” — Malcolm Forbes
